Resources for Parents from the C.A.R.E. Coalition of Transylvania County
Talk It Out
Parents are the front line of efforts to prevent youth substance abuse. Did you know that 76% of North Carolina middle- and high-school youth feel that parents talking to their kids more would decrease underage drinking? Parents often have more of an impact than they realize, and just communicating clear disapproval of drug and alcohol use can go a long way in preventing youth substance misuse and underage drinking. To find out more, check out the information and resources at Talk It Out NC.
Family Dinner Series
Children do not come with “Help Now!” button, but local agencies have joined together to offer support with parenting challenges. The Family Dinner Series is a free monthly dinner, focused on a variety of relevant and tricky topics centered around the family. This series is designed to bring families together for a meal, conversation, education, and fun. Meals are provided by Lola’s Hickory House and childcare is available free of charge. Additionally, families will also be able to receive more information about organizations and agencies within our community who provide services, activities, and information geared towards helping Transylvania County families be happy and healthy. Check out the Facebook page for this year’s schedule!
